Well Rancho Fans -
We have reached our 20th season! Some of you have experienced all of it!! I for one, having booked each of the 300 plus BBQ shows, can’t figure out how we reached this milestone in what seems to be such a short period of time. In any case, we’ve made it together and congratulations all around. This should be another fun summer in Nicasio.

Just to get started, as previously announced, PABLO CRUISE and WONDER BREAD 5 will be kicking things off on
Memorial Day Sunday and Monday, May 27 & 28, respectively.

As many of you know by now, PABLO CRUISE was my first adventure in the music world 44 years ago. Their well deserved success is most likely responsible for Rancho Nicasio as we know it. The chain of events that followed my 1974 career changing decision to bet on them and the “Hollywood” record business and leave “Wall Street” lead to my involvement with other groups, many other artists and songwriters, a night club and eventually to our historic roadhouse in this beautiful valley. Besides the fact that they were and still are as talented musicians as I have ever worked with, any opportunity for us to hang out together is bonus time to take advantage of.

The members of WONDER BREAD 5 are another great local story. Together for over 20 years, the principals are Marin childhood friends who started a tribute band to the Jackson 5 before it was fashionable for such a thing. Well, years later, tribute bands rule, they have expanded their repertoire to cover 3 decades of pop music, and their show is so entertaining that none of them need a “day” job. These guys are good. This will be their 3rd Memorial Day on the lawn. It’s really fun for the whole family.

Blues and Rock & Roll Hall of Famer ELVIN BISHOP and his BIG FUN TRIO will be with us for Fathers’ Day, June 17. This group’s first CD was nominated for a Grammy Award in the Blues category this year, only losing out, with no good reason in MY opinion, to The ROLLING STONES! No kidding. Oh, well. They played for us indoors in December and just killed it big time. Big fun it is.

For openers that day we have CHRIS CAIN, DANIEL CASTRO and “Mighty” MIKE SCHERMER now known as THE GUITARSONISTS. These are all world class bluesmen. Any Blues Festival in the country would be hard pressed, with the addition of Elvin, to have a more distinguished array of blues guitarists on one stage.

These shows are all on sale on line now as well as your other longtime favorites PAUL THORN, ASLEEP AT THE WHEEL, subdudes, and others. I will write ya’ll some more in a while.

But that’s enough to bend your ear about for now.

Except, BILL CHAMPLIN has a new CD. And it is Rock & Roll. And it’s real good. And he is coming with his new band WunderGround on Saturday night, April 21st to show it off! Indoors of course, limited seating, so call now for reservations.

Dear Willie K fans -
Many of you have heard about Willie’s health issues but for those who have not I wanted to give you the run down. Willie was diagnosed with “small cell lung cancer,” in mid January. It is an aggressive cancer but was caught very early. He started chemotherapy within two weeks and is now going through heavy radiation treatments. Angela and I consider Willie, his family and band dear friends. I spoke to his wife, Debbie, today. She said Willie is extremely upbeat, feels good and has so far not experienced too much discomfort. They are of course in a battle but fully expect Willie to resume his career. The gigs for the next few months, however, needed to be cancelled due to the radiation treatments.

So, in order to help maintain the band and Willie’s supporting cast for awhile, here is a GoFundMe link. He usually works 5 nights a week while on the island, so quite a bit of revenue is going to be lost. Debbie told me that there are a few fundraisers being planned on Maui and a couple of the other islands. He is a much loved entertainer with extraordinary talents, that has given so much to so many.

You can also follow his progress on his Willie K Facebook page, where he has very openly shared his experience so far with videos and humor. An amazing guy!

Willie is scheduled to be with us at Rancho Nicasio for the Weekend of August 11 & 12.
The 12th is a BBQ and tickets are available online now. All of us at Rancho Nicasio are thinking nothing but positive thoughts about our friend and will be ready for a great “homecoming weekend.”
